oil and water don't mix
My original thread was on 10/23. I just drained the oil in my newly acquired jeep..from my sister. It had been sitting for many years..and there was water in it. well the newest update is this...I changed the oil, filter, plugs, plug wires, rotor, cap, points, condenser..started her up...now it starts..but won't keep running. First few times it really backfired..now it starts but won't keep running. When you give it the gas, it dies, and when you let it try and idle it dies. Any clues? SHould I focus on the carb..maybe rebuild it? The plugs look fine after I fired it up. I don't think it is electrical..atleast it is starting up and all. Thanks for the help. Paul

This is gonna sound Really wierd, but did you change the fuel filter? It sounds like its either partially plugged or backwards. Just a thought.

Didn't see where you drained and flushed the ENTIRE fuel system. If your gasoline is more than 6 months old (without added stabilizers that might only make it last a year) then it's junk. Your carb, filter, and perhaps lines are all gummed up. And depending on weather conditions where you are, and how full the tank was, you could also be contaminated with condensation (water).

I flushed the gas tank..but I will try and flush it some more. ALso I will change the fuel filters and hopefully that will do the trick. Thanks...keep you posted.
