Lowest Profile highest CFM 16" electric fan?
Already did a search. Been all over the net. Too many ficticous CFM ratings from what I can tell. Been on Be-Cool, Spal, an Zirgo sites. Of coarse they all boast that they are the best. Hoping to find out what worked for you folks. There is a lot of discussions on this but I never really found a solid answer. Sorry for the redundacy. I'm sure everyone is sick of the 'what electric fan....." thing. Really....sorry. So...here goes.
Does anyone know what the highest CFM, low profile 16" fan is out there besides factory units (dont have the room for the factory unit...I tried)? I'd rather pay extra for a good fan than have problems later. I have a total workable space of 18x25 and approximately 3 1/2" of depth. Got a double row alluminum radiator from PRC. Looks really great...and I really like the shroud they made me. What has worked for you guys? Anyone with a 500 HP engine with a small radiator like mine....similar to the shape and size of a .....32 Deuce?
I have found my clearance issue after installing the motor. I got the Mark 8 factory fan as suggested....and there just isnt enough darn room (Its nearly 6" deep and I cant cut it down). Can't push the radiator forward any farther without the cap hitting the inner grill support. Moving the inner support forward isnt going to be an option either. Already moved it as far as I can. Cant move the motor back....its touching firewall now (one thing I found about the LS motors I dislike....the heads are offset....looks really odd ). I have decided I may be able to cut the firewall off completely......trimming 2 1/2" at the top...down to the bottom at an angle giving me approximately 1 1/4" of lee-way. I still have to move the cab forward 1/2" to make up for the angle I put in the radiator (forward at the bottom and tilted it back from original position at the top....sort of split the difference). So...after moving cab forward the 1/2" I need...and allowing 1/4" of clearance between firewall and back of engine.....that leaves me with a total of a 1/2" I can move engine back. This leaves me with a total of 3 1/2" of clearance between tip on the water pump pully and base of radiator shroud. Any ideas on a real thin high CFM 16" electric fan? Picture below.

We run Zirgo's on the drag cars, do a great job. As far as specifics for your application, some of the Deuce guys should be along with what they run.... Might check out Kitz's roadster, I know he has a nice one.... So does Dave, and a bunch of the others....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I had a similar problem on a '64 Falcon. there was only 2 1/2" of clearance between the radiator and the water pump pulley. I found a 16" fan with an offset motor and belt drive called a "Sidewinder." They claim it moves 2200 CFM and is only 1 7/8" deep at the center. It's expensive, but it's well built, works good and solved the problem. Below is a link to where I bought it.

I've been told these are good, not sure what anyone else knows but it should fit, 3.5" deep, 16" and 3300 cfm.

I like SPAL fans personally. Move a lot of air and seem to last a long time. Have one on my Jeep truck, one on my T, and one on both of my Son's cars.
Just drove my T yesterday and at a light it came up to 180, kicked on the fan an before the light changed it was down to 150. If you want low profile, here is one they feature:

I installed a 16" Sidewinder fan from The Fan Man on a '64 Ranchero that worked great, but costs $ 420.00. The fan is driven by an enclosed belt from an offset motor. The depth at the center is 1 7/8" and 3 3/8" on the side where the motor is, and they claim it moves over 2200 CFM. (I see on their web site that it is currently unavailable due to redesign). I installed it three years ago, and haven't had any complaints on it from the customer.

All v8 engines have offset heads--they are offset the diminsion of the connecting rod
We use mostly fans from the early Vipers

Cooling Components has a new one out. (1700 series) I think it is 2 1/2" deep including the shroud and spins at 2500 rpm. Thinking about getting one to replace my existing fan on my car. I am not pressed for space so even the old one at 4 inches would work, but the new ones are only a little more $.Bob

Thanks everyone. I'm looking at the Cooling components set-up. I worry a little whether the 2500 CFM will be enough. I'll never have over 500 hp on the LS1 and most likely I'll just leave it alone as is. I'm going to have to move firewall back so I will be getting a little more room with that move but not much. Maybe I should recess the middle part of the firewall even more to set the engine back. I've seen a couple done this way and should still allow access to all the engine vitals for repairs at a later date.
The low profile, offset motor, fan that was mentioned may be my only alternative. I've seen that one somewhere. Do you have a link for it? I'd like to see how much airflow it produces.
Does anyone have experience with the newer model Mustang fans? CFM wise? I think they are 17 or 18" as well but instead of a huge shroud like the Mark 8's have, it has its own mounting set-up like these retrofit fans that I'm looking at. Wish I could have made the Mark 8 work.

3 1/2 thick, 309 dollars...I also matched it with a triple binary A/C switch,so it automaticly comes on with the air or the water temp rise...My radiator was 17x17 on the fins and the fan housing is 22x17, so it goes even with the bottom tank, the shroud fits great. I ran it after installing to check operation, It'll suck the chrome off a trailer hitch!

I use a spal 16" rated at 2360 cfm on a ProStreet 55 Chevy that has close to 600 hp & it runs right on the Tstat, even in traffic in summer.
I use the same fan on my Deuce w/ 430 hp.
I think the key is buying the most efficient radiator you can afford- not a fan w/mega cfm.
I'd be looking at an aluminum rad like those from PRC. You only need the fan during slow driving & idling. At freeway speed, there should already be enough air moving through radiator to keep things cool.
I have several friends w/blown motors in Deuces that have close to 800 hp. They use an aluminum rad & a Spal fan w/ no heating issues.

Check out Cooling Components new thin Ultimate Cooling Fan. A 17" fan, 275 watt motor, @ 2-5/8" thickness.

I have a cooling components fan and shroud on my duce. The fan that they use is a spal . Not cheap , but cheap doesn't work for long.
That's going to be nice, like the color. .
