Fuel Cell vs. Gas Tank?

Just a follow up here... I took the old tank down to the local mechanic. Found a 5-inch split weld so welded that up (pretty ugly bead, by the way) and added a nipple for a vent. After $200 for what appeared to be marginal work I'm beginning to think it's time to get my own welder :LOL:

well it is hard some times to weld on them tanks when your mind keeps yelling BOOM makes me jumpy:whacked: i just did to custom bike tanks with a lot more welding then that you had done i need to up my rates:D

I've used this stuff on chopper tanks, works great and cheap.

You got that right... that's why I had a hard time finding someone to do the work. But your suggestion to wash it out real good at the car wash got any smell of gas out if it and took the edge off for the guys taking on the work...

Blast from the past... A season later I redid the whole fuel system with 10 gal aluminum cell -8 plumbing with bypass regulator with return to tank for constant flow. No more vapor lock. Took me a couple months to get the carb straightened out for reliable fuel delivery. Dropped jets 9 sizes... a lot of work and $$$ but glad I switched.
