Runtz reducers are tranzistorized and used for gauges, so it would work.. Speedway Motors sells them under the Speedway logo I think.. a clock gut kit or a mopar voltage reducer for any 60's- '70's Mopar gauge assembly would also work.. they are solid state electronic.
