Millermatic 180

For ten years I have used a Centry 110v mig. It has servrd me well for being a cheapo welder, but it has finally flaked out on me and will not even produce a decent tack weld. I have abused this welder to no end in the worst of conditions, and I have definately gotten my money's worth out of it. I am now in need of a new welder and am ready to step up to a 220v unit. I dont want to spend to much as I need to keep the budget in check. I have my eyes set on a Millermatic 180. I did a search of the forums and there are a few positive coments on the Miller 180 but they are all a few years old.

So my question is what is the current opinion on the Millermatic 180 ?
Is anyone here currently using one ? and do they still like it ?
Good or Bad I want to here from those using this welder, I know Miller has a good reputation but is the 180 worthy of it ?

I do mostly automotive hobby type of work and for the real heavy stuff I use my stick welder.

We don't personally have the 180, but rather the 210. However, we are fans of Miller stuff without exception. Ours has been like the one you described, it has welded literally miles of welds, and has been flawless. We have always dealt with cyberweld.com and have purchased the mig, a 200 synchrowave tig,and a Thermodynamics plasma cutter so far from them. Their prices are tough to beat, and they are professional, the stuff comes very fast (usually freight free) and they have a good reputation.

Hope someone can give you some specific input about the 180.

We have a 250---we do mostly tig except wanted something a little heavier to be able to fix the truck, trailer or to fab something heavy
when we do use it on a car it is at a lower setting and works excellent

I switched from Miller to Lincoln last time I upgraded, only because of the price and service we get from our local Lincoln distributor. When we got the new tig last year, the rep spent an entire day in the shop checking everyone out on it's operation and capabilities. Might have cost a bit more locally then on the net, but the service makes it a better deal for me. The truck stops by twice a month to make sure things are working good and we have the stuff we need on hand....

I've owned a Millermatic 150 that I bought brand new in 1994. The 150 looks identical to the 180 and my brother in law owns a 180. I have welded 3/8" stock in one pass with excellent penetration. I've used mine on everthing from car frames to drill stem pipe fencing to sheetmetal. Its a very good machine. The Hobart mig machines are nice too.

I have a Hobart 185 Handler. I haven't been kind to it in the 3 plus years it's been with me. It hasn't let me down yet. I've used a Miller 180. Great machine. You won't be disappointed!

its a great machine.
the 180 with its heavier duty cycle is even better! quite a few muffler shops in this part of the world are using them:toocool:

this machine should definitely have the duty cycle and weld capacity to handle what you need. It may even surprise you into letting the dust accumulate on the old stick welder.

I have a Miller 200 mig & a sync. 250 tig. both have served me well w/no repairs nedded.
