Ford 9" rear end and 28-35 stock wire rims, how to fit?

Hi...new guy to the site here...

Been lurking for a while, bringing myself upto speed on the site and some of the threads...very cool site, lot of good info.

I have probably a very basic question for some here, that's why I figured I would ask.

I have a Ford 9" rear end I got out of a 73 Ford truck. I want to use a set of 28-35 stock Ford wire rims on the rig I'm building. The rims can't bolt up the axle because of the dia. of the stock brake drum on the 9" rear axle, and the dish on the back of the rims is to small. What are my options here? I'm sure I'm not the first guy to run into this problem.

I know wheel spacers are available...I figured an 1.5" thickness would work?

That's the problem with the 35 wires. You have to use a 1 3/8 to 1 1/2 inch spacer to make them fit. I have 35 wires on F-100 brakes and used a spacer about 1 3/8 thick which I had specially made.

That's what I kinda figured, but thought I might be missing some magic fix.

I imagine something like this in an 1.5" width would work?

Here, I went to another forum and dug up the thread about these spacers. Here is what he said:



No more using a support ring and spacer the put 28-35 Ford wires and bent spoke kelseys on flat brake drums. Put this adapter on the drum (any bolt pattern) and then bolt on the wheel.

Thanks for the info guys. I called rallyamerica this eveing and ordered up 2 of the rear spacers for a Ford 9". I think they are going to work great for my application, very reasonably priced I thought.

I attached a few photos of the junk I am working on. Photos of the rims after I sandblasted them, and later yesterday in the paint booth...painted them kinda burnt red. I was thinking of doing some sort of build thread. Wondering what forum it should be in....I'm thiking the hot rod forum?

Wheels look great in that color. I love '35 wires anyway.......I have a few I'm saving for something.

Please do the build thread, and yep, the Hot Rod forum is the right place. We aren't real fussy though, post wherever and we will still love to see it. :D :D

I bet your experience with Rally America will be as good as everyone has posted on various sites. Let us know.
