I'll sweep the floors every day if I can have just a small spot in there to work on my 36... promise...
ok, here's my .02 : roller chain coat rack. I made one for a local bike shop, and it got LOTS of attention. Made it out of 120 series chain. ( that is 1.5" center-to-center link ) for the base and center, with 40 series (1/2" center-to-center link ) for the 'hooks'. Sand blasted the chain to get it clean, then painted it gloss black after welding. You can find stuff like that at your salvage yards from time to time.
Also: wall art from scrap junk. Old timing chain gears make great wheels, spark plugs are easily made into the rider, nuts and bolts become engines and headlights, the odd bracket becomes a frame, next thing you know you have a way-cool 'folkart' dust catcher..
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.
