I have Classic Industries gauges in my car and have been very happy with them over the years, but my mechanical speedo has developed a problem.
When car and gauges are "cold" the first 5 to 10 miles of use the needle on the speedo reads inaccurate and jumps all over the gauge. Not sure if it's the Gauge, cable or the speedo gears in the chevy 350 trans.
try a clean and lube in the cable, they make a lube for speedo cables but if you don't use that make sure you use something that won't freeze.
Like Denny says, use cable lube....ALL auto supply stores have it in a little tube. DO NOT use WD40.
The erratic motion is almost always a cable problem, either lube or bad routing.
