Just wondering fellas, how often do you, or people you know, work things out on the barter system?
I have my 91 ford explorer that I am thinking about selling but then started thinking might be better off to keep it in case I can trade later for the paint or interior work on the F1. some times trades get you more than the $$ would.

In some countries and other places.:3dSMILE: My father in law actually works that way - kind of. He lets people interested in his cars or parts make the offers, and he says yes or no. When it's a no, they make additional offers until they either compromise or not. Some actually resort to begging, but that usually don't work with him either.:LOL: :LOL:
I would bet in most cases somebody comes out on the short end of the stick in barter deals. I have seen lots of cases where someone says "if you do this for me I'll do that for you" and before it is over one end of the bargain gets forgotten about.
From personal experience I can tell you that it usually spells the end of a friendship or partnership. Can't tell you how many times I have done something or given some item with a promise that something else would be done in return, and then the guy disappears. Now all deals are cash.
The old days when a handshake was gospel are gone unfortunately.

DON that is so true,i barter every chance i get since i,m the fred sanford of east alabama,generally its junk for junk never labor for junk been brunt 2 many times.
Hmm... it is too bad it has gotten that way. i have done some trade deals, and trade for partial payment plus whatever it was. has worked out well for me. I have also had money for work go badly. I guess the problem is knowing which guys you can trust to deal straight with you and which you can't.
I think I'll put my car for sale and if I don't get good offers just keep using it. I put new coil and wires in it 2 weeks ago and it runs great, been driving it a week now. (too lazy to switch the car seat to my Trailblazer :) )

there is plenty of bartering where im from hell if they want it bad enough theyll offer just about anything you could want if you think its not a good deal you can always ask for boot
i am in the process of trading a 64 C 10 stepside for an 85 El Camino.
The 'Camino has a 350 which I really don't want, gonna keep the ( 283? ) that is in the C 10, and maybe the transmission too. gotta take a look at how it mounts, and decide which will be easier. They both have turbo 350s. the truck has the usual rust in the usual places, and the wood bed is rotted out. the Camino has some dents and one rust out in a quarter panel. The truck interior is steel, so just needs painted, but the camino has a dash which is garbage. ( and I don't care ). Really just looking to swap a beater for a beater, and I've always wanted a 'Camino.
I've done lots of jobs and ended up with zip in return. I think of all the snowplows I've setup or repaired almost every time I shovel out my driveway. I still don't think I want to change,I prefer to think of it as at least it didn't cost me any money to find out they were self centered scumbags, plus I really do need the exercise. Hank
Out here in the boondocks it has worked out pretty well for me, but it did in Las Vegas too. Up here my neighbor has a small landscape business as well as a regular job, so if I need a tractor /bucket/blade, it's allways there. He has a key to my place and I have one to his. 'Nuther neighbor is a licensed electrician and admits he's no mechanic.I can weld or repair whatever they bring over and it works out. Plus we all plow snow on our own road.
Still do a lot of swapping for parts and labor around here. Sometimes I get burned, but most times it works out fine. Just lets you know who to trust and who not to trust!
the only fair barter is dollar for dollar .
If this was not a family orientated site I'd tell you about the stripper that came in our shop to get some buisness cards made. Barter is alive and well! :3dSMILE:
