3/8" X 1 1/2" should work just fine. I use a flat washer between the bellhousing and lock washer, too. Hate galling up the aluminum... Don't overtorque them either. Every bolt on an engine has a torque value, might want to have a manual or print out of torque specs for a sbc when you put things together......
