Thread: What tools do you fellas keep in the car?

Its happened to all of us...the dreaded roadside repair job. Im preparing a tool kit to keep in the car just in case. Aside from the usual flashlight, jumpers, screwdrivers and wrenches, what do you guys think are the best and most helpful tools or items to carry with you?
If it were up to me Id bring my whole tool cabinet...but then Id look silly pulling a trailer of tools behind me!

Don't need tools in the car. I drive Fords!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously, I have my trusty "road trip box" with me constantly. A set of sockets and wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, tape and the usual hose splices and electrical spares. Also very handy to have should you happen across a junkyard you might have missed before!!!!!

Oh yeah, and each car has one of the cheapie pay as you go cell phones, just in case....

The backup cell is a good idea dave, even though i always have one. I keep everything i can fit in my trunk, on my trip to nc i took everything but the welding machine,if it was battery operated it would have went also.I keep spare bolts, gaskets, hoses, you name it i have it.

I just occurred to me it might be a good idea to carry a first aid kit too.

I tow my Dakota in case I need a tow

Well I can't fit anything else in my truck when I go to and from work. Our company has a policy on what to have in the car.
Flashlight, 3 sets of reflective triangles, flourecent vest, disposable camera, accident reporting kit, extra set of clothes, blanket, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, and a list of evryone you should call if you have an accident.

I use to carry a complete distributer/coil and carb until i bought new stuff.....

a good idea would be to go to sears look at one of their moderate tool kits and just set yours up like that. good set or 2 of sockets screwdrivers wrenches etc.. when i go race i take 3-4 mini toolboxes with me each one has a specific area of the car rear end, engine, drivetrain, electrical.

HUH??? You don't keep a fully stocked pit cart in your trailer???? I do!!!!

There's a simple list and cool idea that I followed almost besides the points part since I have an electronic dissy. Also I keep a small box of sockets, wrenches and a couple of screw drivers. Extra fuses, some extra wire and hose clamps, etc. Heh we even had a guy in our local Ford club bring a potato and used it when someone shot a rock in his radiator and it got him home which was over an hour drive or more. I don't think you'd want a potato sitting in your car though. LOL

This afternoon I searched through my toolbox and pulled out duplicates of screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, allen keys, I even had an extra ratchet set. I also grabbed some zip ties, clamps, electrical tape, and fuses. Then i went to the local discount store today and picked up a zippered tool bag, flat fix, first aid kit, flashlight, and gloves. I even purchased a tow strap just in case all else fails. I think im all set now....but you know what will happen...The one tool I forgot will be the one I need most!

Yeah that always seems to happen. I have a tool box that I use for work with a bunch of stuff in it and I just grab the entire thing when I take my 66 out because I just got the new motor going in it and haven't driven it for over a year so I don't trust it yet. At least you have most of what you can take with you.

No trailer????? Where do you keep the sun canopy, screen enclosure for the kids to play in, gas grille, coolers, lawn chairs, generator, and all the other essential items when you go to the drags????? How do you haul home all the parts you buy (and will never use) while your at the drags???? You poor child!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
