Someone talk me out of it!

I have my rearend scattered all over my shop...that's my 9" rearend to be more specific. As many of you have already noticed, I am redrilling the bolt patterns. As I look at the brake drums and all of the ugly holes, I once again entertain the idea of rear discs. Long ago, I purchased the disc/drum combination valve along with the Ford type MC and 7" booster. I'm not sure the MC and bootster will handle all discs, and I know I will have to buy a proportioning valve.

Those kits are so freaken expensive, but it looks so much better. It's kind of foolish to pay that much just for the looks because I know perfectly well that I won't NEED them.

If you go the rear discs you'll need a different master cylinder suited for 4 discs. That system you linked to looks like the ones for the 8.8 rear. Do they also fit 9"? The good thing about those as compared to some of the aftermarket ones is the Ford units have the e-brake hardware included.

As for whether you should or shouldn't do it depends. From a practical standpoint, they're not necessary. If you're using wheels with "big windows" the appearance thing can be an issue. If the wheels hide, or mostly hide, the brake assemblies, I wouldn't do it.

I was wondering when you would chime in, streets. That kits is also supposed to work with big bearing 9"ers, so I'm not really concerned about that fact. If I have to buy a new MC, that might be the straw to break the camel's back. I looked in Zig's and Yogi's, and don't see a specified difference between a disc/disc and disc/drum MC. Is the corvette version supposed to be fordisc/disc?
