I am removing my headers to brush and paint. the problem is that on the drivers side of my 71 monte with a 350 engine the oil dip stick is in the way. I need to remove it to remove the header. How do I remove the dip stick tube.
Thanks

Just pull on it. If it won't come out by hand, put some pliers on it. It will come out.
thank you. any trick to putting it back in?
Twist it.**)
No trick getting it back in, just don't break it off getting it out. They usually bust off flush and are a real bear to get the little bit out.
I usually put a tab of axle grease on it and get it started. Then crawl underneath and get a batter grab on it with some channel locks or vise grips(be very careful not to clamp too hard). Then wiggle it in while applying downward pressure. Hope this helps.
What I've done in the past is to grab onto the tube at the very bottom with a pair of pliers, then tap on the pliers with a hammer. No big deal goin' back in, just wipe a little Permatex on the circumference of the tube to make sure there are no leaks (Just a light smear) and tap it back in the same way, with the pliers and hammer.
No. it is just a light press fit, so you can tap it down into place until the ridge seats against the block.
If you have a problem getting it out, I have inserted a tight fitting bolt instead of the dipstick, and clamped down with round jawed vise grips, and twisted back and forth to loosen them. The bolt keeps you from deforming the tube.
Don
It's pressed in. Try to twist and pull out be carefull not to break it off.
