How do you ground an HEI??
This is the third flame thrower kit I've tried in my 65 truck and none work. I cant spark and I cant kill the motor. I've pulled every wire off my dizzy and it still runs. I'm so sick of this, seriously. I see thousands of videos on the web and nobody knows how it works, how to build a kit, how to ground an HEI or anything. Do I need magic, is that it? Just magic? Do I wave a wand over my tips and they shoot dragon magic flames???? What is the deal???????????? I've sunk over $200 in my chevelle and truck and no spark, no motor kill, no flames, nothing@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you already have magic if you pull every wire from your "dizzy" and it still runs. Maybe you should stand in a bucket of water and try again. Tone down the F'in language shiz and you will probably get some great responses.Last edited by 65ny; 04-27-2007 at 08:15 PM.

Thank you 65ny.....I usually put the stupid thing in the dirt and stomp on it.I believe that's grounded enough.What if the "Hokey Pokey" is what it's really all about?

One does not ground a distributor to stop the ignition system from operating.

Ok, now that the language issues have been dealt with....
Do you have a gm 10si alt? if so...
You may need a diode installed in series on Terminal 1 this should be connected to a switched (ignition) feed. This terminal switches on the alternator when the ignition is switched on.
The diode is necessary to prevent the alternator from feeding back into the ignition circuit and causing the car to continue to run when the ignition has been switched off by the key.Our race team page

There is more to this one than meets the eye. I think he is talking about flame throwers in his exhaust, so I have no idea what this distributor thing has to do with it.
From the rambling and language, I think something more is going on here.

Relax people, I'm just another in a long line of car guys who threw some tooles busting his knuckles on something.
I'm talking about an exhaust flame thrower kit, and all kits tell you to tap into the ground wire of the distributor. This is not a problem with an old points style, but on an HEI you cant kill the ground because it will start to jump. I removed every black wire from that thing just to see what would happened and it still fired.
The reason you tap into the ground is to kill the ignition system so your unburnt fuel makes it back to the tips.
So if someone can show me how to kill my ignition with the button while the plugs fire, I'll be a happy camper.
