That would be a 2 speed fan motor. I don't think you will burn it up by 'trying" the different terminals. one terminal will be ground, one will be high speed, one will be low speed.
First of all how many wires are in the three pin plug ? Probly 2. You should probably find out if it's a pusher or a puller, If there are 2 wires just hook it up to your battery and determine if it is turning the correct way, if it's not reverse the pos and neg. Applying power with the polarity reversed to the fan for the short period of time will not damage the fan motor.
You may have to use a relay and or wire it backwards as I melt switches with mine. The two wires that are not black are for two speeds, one normal one fast. I went to a 25 amp fuse to stop the melting. Plus I ran a dirrect hot wire to the fan and the ground threw the switch.
As Nova said, the fan will work best with a relay and save a lot of wear and tear on your wiring!!!!!
This should get you started......
Heres more.....
Now thats service, thanks for the information guys.Much appreciated.
Some great illustrations, Shawn!!! Thanks for all the good research!!!
No problem!!!
I think a couple of those illustrations are thanks to Dennys help when I was doing my fan:3dSMILE: Denny needs to photo shop a little image of his avatar in the corner of all the great diagrams he does.....
