More....pics
I pretty much tried every way I could think of the rationalize that they look ...ok,but realized there pretty bad. I took 1200 fine paper with wd-40 and cleaned them up a little better...the first photos were of the gear just wiped off with wd-40 and a rag. This one looks a little better now,....but only a little,I have bead blaster loaded with walnut shells to clean them 1 step further ?Do you think it will matter if I use walnut shells ,or is that still too abrasive?I will get a new pin too.... I know these will only work for a limited time even when clean,I guess it works like a pot hole in the road and hydraulics every revolution wearing just a little more away each time...
By the way this is the worst spot I could find on this gear to photograph, some of them look almost like new:LOL: compared to these teeth..
Thnx ,once again!!!!There is probably going to be very little driving on the street with these at all.I just need to move it in the drive way and get it on and off the trailer to get a weight on it.The trailer it to the dmv for licence.:D By that time I will have accumulated the parts..to fix it correctly.
Thnx,I just need to move the carrier over .008 to the right{or what it takes to remove the .008 of lash} and I will be set!!!!I am going to go get a shim pack today and disassemble it all. Then install the new bearing on the pinion ,shim the carrier ,maintaining preload and install the axels then the fluid.!!!!:D
I seems real bad not to replace the spiders and axel gears while its apart ,but it only takes a few minuts to remove the axels and change them later....no need to remove the carrier to do this later.Just for those who may read this later and wonder.
I could not bear the fact of not being able to shove my accel foot thru the floor at will ....so I went and purchased new spider gear set and carrier shim pack,I know that I would have taken it easy for the first 30 foot and called it good with the old spiders:LOL: I will post some pics of the new gear mitre/it looks pretty good now on both sides /drive and coast /it did not change much at all.
Also the carier shims were in backwards from previouse persons work /after replacing them back in there correct place it lined up perfect and the lash was right at .008 ,which is the smallest spec .I suspect it will be at .010 in no time.So far so good/I have never felt a new rear end play before....theres not much compared to all the used rides I have felt.
Heres the pics....Yeah ,it feels nice and smooth being all new!!!!:D
 You never know when ol charlie horse will rear his ugly head!!
I still need to reset the pinion at 20 inch pounds {I think this was the setting,I have it marked down}with the new crush sleeve and re-assemble for the last time.I only had to take it apart 3 times, becuse it worked out with the factory shims!!!
Hush.,shhhh....I am trying to use up all the partial cans of paint left from the engine  Only color left is universal gold:CRY: {I used it on carb linkage}I been savin that fer a SPECIAL place:LOL: Then theres the almost full can of new ford grey,...so it either gold or grey brake drums......:whacked:
The gold may look good with polished aluminum wheels and with a red and white truck...
Last big project is the braking system..
Update.....The new gear mitre pics....If any of these need to be at a different angle or any variation of what I have ,please let me know ,I will snap more pics. The new mitre marks are shiney on the gear ,the old marks are the light grey color. These were the best out of alot of pics ,hopefully you will be able to see the new marks,.........I know {go buy some marking compound {,....
The next 4,if you need other pics or different angles ,...no problem at all to take more photos!!:D
Here's an idea. You will be pleased how it works. Go to the store and but Foot Powder in an aerosol can (spray form with a powder finish....tinactin is clear so go with a powdery style spray). Lightly spray on the areas of contact. It will only contact and "rub" the surface for where you are trying to "look". It easily comes off with Brakekleen or similar cleaner. It takes no preload or extra effort to "see" what you're trying to achieve. Old trick from the old days when we needed to get a feel.
to get a good print out .go to a art store/hobby shop and i use oil paint the thick past paint comes in a small tin tube i use yellow
More pics ,This time with chalk line chalk {I am a carpenter:LOL: }I will have to get some of the drive side in the next few mins....
I just realized I had coast and drive sides confused:LOL:
Might mark alot faster if I am looking at the right side
Ok....disregard the last set of pics,I did not know my coast from my drive side:LOL: I am sure Denny knew which side he was looking at :D I was a little confused in my Jethro Bodine cyphering.
Now That I am taking pictures of the correct side of the gear:LOL: They were very easy to mark.I guess turning drive direction and looking at the coast side is noo good:CRY:
These are the coast side pics in this post.......Turning the drive shaft counter clockwise which is reverse to make these marks.
