Lakewood Traction Bars

Any one use these for street / strip. I was going get pair for 73 Nova part #21606. But herd stories their short of hitting eye of spring. Car putting enough torque out that it's arcing spring. Plus car breaking tire for 25' / 30' befor hooking up.

What's the problem with snubbing behind the eye?
It was 1959 when I first bolted on a set of these. They were called Lakewood Traction Masters. Worked well then, will probably work well now.

I've got a set on the Mustang and they work quite well.

Ran a set on my '68 Mustang. Car ran mid 11's on them and hooked really well.


You might want to reinforce your spring perch pads on the rear axle though. I twisted mine really badly one time and the driveshaft tried coming through the floor. I straightened them and welded reinforcing straps over the housing, no more problems.

I used them on a 63 Nova and they worked real well. You might also want to look at Cal-Tracs, they are kinda the next generation bolt on traction bar. There are a bunch of 9 second cars running those.

Those bars are kinda of generic. Depending on spring length, some may have to be lengthened so the snubber contacts the spring eye. I believe CalTracs would be a better option. Matter of fact, Popular Hot Rodding did a test with my friends Nova (Blown sbc, back halved with 14" slicks) using the CalTrac bars. Upon leaving, the Nova carried the front tires. It wouldn't do that with the Lakewoods.
