chopping a 38 ford pickup

Can anyone help me? Im looking to find someone that knows how to chop the top off a 38 ford pickup about 4 inches. Pics and info would be very helpful. You can email me at pontzzz@yahoo.com

I never have done a '38, but have done a '35 and a '40. Both were about a 5 on the 1 to 10 degree of difficulty chopping scale..... Probably not recomended without experienced help for your first chop. With the angles and curves, things do move around and all the dimensions change, with a 4" chop the changes would be quite dramatic..... The old Ford pickups I have done have been anywheres from 3" (neat and easy) to a mail slot side window 6" chop.....

The larger the chop, the more changes and cuts you will have to make. With a 4" chop it definitely won't be a straight down deal. Just a thought, but rather then a 4" chop, how about a 2" chop then when you put the new roof on, go to a much lower crown on the roof??????

Dave, this is my first day joined on this site and I already like it cuz of people like you. You have been a big help and I hope I can figure out how to find my way around this site without looking looking like a fool. Here in L.A Ca, nobody helps nobody, they only stab you in the back or sue you. I just moved here from Oregon and it blows me away how people are here. Anyways thanks again for all your help.

Man,from where you are,all the pro's that we watch on tv are less than 1 hr from you. There are literally dozens of car clubs, terrific garage sales almost every weekend. The place is what you make it. Yeah,the locals look at you like you've got two heads when you know something besides what you do for a living. They seem to have to hire someone to do everything for them,including mowing a postage stamp sized lawn. Now,before you cut into that vintage tin,how good of a welder are you?If butt welding two pieces of sheet metal together with minimal warpage is no problem for you,that's more than half the chop job covered already.Check out the threads on here about chopping, books and videos available,make your plan and go for it.
