Good high HP clutch?

I am building a '69 El camino with a big block 396 that is going to have about 500HP and 500lbs. of torque. I am either going with a richmond super T-10 4 speed or a richmond 5 speed. I may be shooting a 100 shot of NOS on the combo as well. Does anybody have a recommendation for a long lasting clutch? Are the richmond transmissions going to hold up to this kind of abuse? Or is there a better manufacterer?

I don't like the Richmonds. They were great when they were a Doug Nash trans but now th quality seems to have gone downhill... The Super t-10 is a good tranny, also take a look at the TKO 600 as they are rated for 600 foot pounds torque. As for clutches, I really like McLeod... And with 500 ft. lbs torque and good biting tires, the clutch life is mostly determined by how you drive.....

How much rpm is your engine doing ? You have not said what you will do with the car I mean what kind of racing ? or just a hot street machine. If you are doing about 6000 rpm you may want to try a good centrifugally assisted long design. That way you will have lighter pedal pressure when you change gear but the pressure will come on when you go up the rev range. Of course you will need a steel flywheel to handle the extra pressure.

Well, after looking at the prices for a TKO600, I'm thinking a T10 will do fine. This is mostly going to be a street/strip car. And I made a mistake, the T10 I was referring to was the Richmond T10, the Super T10 must be the original from the 60's? Any other manufacterer that makes a good 4 speed that handles LOTS of torque?

You could try Autogears muncie that come out with the new supercase and are superstrong, lots of different gear ratios for them now to.

I put a new CenterForce clutch in my 460/T-18 and was very impressed with the improvement over stock.

I checked out Autogears and they look pretty good. Do you know how much they are for the Super muncie? I sent them an e-mail but who knows how long they will take to get back.

I agree Center Force make a nice street clutch as well as McLeod. Exity also makes a nice set up.
We have had great luck with all 3.

Yup for a super case bullit proof M22 it is 2500, with the fine spline input and the large 32 spline mainshaft, they should get back to you pretty quick on the email.

Ya I talked to them. $2000 for the Super M-21, which is the close ratio tranny. He said it'll handle 600lbs. of torque.

Do you know if the M-22's are supposed to be stronger?

VERY Much stronger, due to their straighter gears, thay have less side thrust against the ends of the case during hard accelleration and use. Oh and make sure that you get the bearing 1st gear rather than the sleeve bush as it cuts down on friction and gets more power to the rear wheels where it is needed.
