I am interested in installing a corvette rear end in a 34 Ford and I could use a little help. I ran across a guy named "Lou" at Loustoy235@wmconnect.com that had a complete installation kit, but I lost track of him so maybe someone knows of him or can give me some help on where to start. Hi Gary,I think that seattlestreetrods.com has kits for C4 Corvette rears but I believe they are for 35 and later Fords.I'm pretty sure that progressiveautomotive.com has them to fit your car though.I'm trying to find any info on putting a C3 (out of a 77) in my 29 Tudor.If you find anything please post it.Thanks,Glenn

My 34 Plymouth has a C3 (1981) Vette rear in it. Been that way forever. I did not build it and if I had it would not have been there. Would have referred a standard Ford or Chevy rear. The C4 and C5 rears are less expensive than what the C3 was and probably better and a little wider. I like the newer ones that have the inboard brakes. Most people I know who have Vette IRS's complain about the parking brake as they rarely work and adjustments are frequently required. That would be the mini drum style parking brakes mounted on the back of the discs.
Mine also has the laminated rear spring which is adjustable and comes in different stiffnesses, but I would prefer coil overs as they are easier to adjust. I believe Flat Out Engineering has a retro kit for coil overs. Ride runs from good to so-so, depending on spring adjustment and load. Also my laminated spring came un-laminated once on the road. Lucky to have survived. :eek:
My 34 has no trunk so I tow a Mullins Trailer and even though the Vette IRS does it okay, I would rather have a standard axle for this chore. Another issue that was brought to my attention by my friendly Corvette shop when replacing the spring was that my car (an all steel 2 dr sedan) places more weight over the IRS than an Vette so I could expect more wear on my suspension and tires than what be normal on a vette. Haven't notice much ware on the suspension since the spring replacement, but I do tend to go thruough rear tires more frequently than other cars. :CRY: :CRY:
If you really think a vette IRS is the way you want to go.... then go for it.
