Try car shows, and auto trade shows they bring alot of new things out . Also if you have a vo. Tech near you with a collision repair program go to them with ideas and let them do a test panel to look at. I get this alot and we have done some for guys building rods. We do it on 18x24 panel for them to get a real good idea of what it might look like. It is also good practice for the students. Hope this helps

What I do is find a car that has the color I like & find the make, model & yr. of the car. With this info a body paint & supply co. can tell you the paint code & mix it for you.
For my 48 Gmc trk I picked Solar yellow which is a color user on late model Crysler products(Prowler/2005 Dodge trks...etc).
How about 2003 General Motors code 79 "slingdhot yellow"---Brian
Yep, I do the same thing. Start hitting the new car dealerships and pick out one you like. I also look at cars around me in traffic and trying to think how some of those colors would look on a rod. Usually if you get the make and model you can get into the right section of the paint chips at the paint store.
Check out some of the foreign cars as they seem to have the coolest colors.

Look at GM's Competition Yellow that is used on the new Monte Carlos. That yellow really pops. My '32 is painted with a Sherwin Williams custom color yellow which is very similar to the formula for Competition Yellow.
Old guy rodder, THAT color POPS! I LOVE colors that you don't have to explain what they are. You all know what I mean "well it's a goldish bronze" no, I like "It YELLOW". That truck my friend is YELLOW!
Very, very nice.
Brian
This is '96 Corvette Competition Yellow in Sherwin-Williams Ultra 7000 bcc. It's much yellower outside in the sun.
That's it--very close to the color as mine. The color is not true in my gallery photos.
Thanks for the pictures guys . I guess I have do some test panel with codes you guys gave me.

Herr's another yellow. Daytona Yellow.

Henry Rifle---I think that our cars are probably the same colour. Mine looks exactly the same colour as yours when its in the shade.---Brian
The two yellows I keep in inventory are the Dodge Viper "Dandelion Yellow", which is a bright clean "true" yellow. The other is Ford Mustang "Chrome Yellow", which is more of a hot yellow-gold shade. I've gotten compliments on both.
Do you want a metalic? That will really make it pop or a candy but there is much more work and cost to these colors?
If not I would go with comp.yellow from G.M.
