The officer and the CSR at DMV were incorrect. The car is titled as a 1934 Ford Coupe. There is a notation under "OTHER PERTINENT DATA" that says "Replica 2007."
However, the registration only says "FORD 3W COUPE 1934" That's what inspection stations will see, and it says nothing about 2007. The bottom line is that the law as written applies to replicas. They are only subject to the emission and safety requirements for the year of the car. The local inspection station understood that, and there was no argument. I would advise you to have a copy of the law with you when you have it inspected. The only caveat is that all safety devices you install (even if not required) have to work.
I am not sure what the property tax situation will be. I haven't received a bill yet. You do have to submit invoices for the body, frame, engine and transmission. If they go from that, the taxes could be high. If they just look up a '34 Ford in their standard books, the taxes will be almost nil. I guess I'll find out when I get my bill.Last edited by Henry Rifle; 10-01-2007 at 05:15 PM.
