Gear ratio question....
I have a chance to pickup an 8.8 rear axle for cheap. But, it has 4:10 gears in it. Is this a driveable gear ratio when using a chevy 350 automatic behind a 383 stroker? Its not gonna be an everyday driver, but I would like to hit the highway occasionally for some rod runs and Sunday drives. Is this doable without going to an overdrive?
Also, Im going to be running 33" tires (M/T 33x19.50x15) actually proly only 32" tall.

It'll buzz pretty good at 70 and up, but a real good setup for the street... My calculator sez that setup will be turning 3,000 RPM @ 70 mph.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Thanks Dave, I think I could live with that. I dont plan on much highway driving like I said. And I guess I could always change out the gears if it gets to unbarable! I can get this whole rear with only 600 miles on the gears for $300 delivered to me. Plus its already had everything cut off already, so I think based on what you said, I'll get it. Cant hurt for that price....

Those tall tires will tame it a little. My '27 has 3:90's with a 30 inch tire, and it ran down the interstate fine. My Mustang had 4:88's, but that was a different story.
Besides, gas is getting cheaper all the time.

Well, I went ahead and bought it! I met the guy in Nashville yesterday. Its out of a 2001 Ford Explorer. See my new post for my new problem...
