was wondering, aside from cap location, is there anything barring turning a cross flow radiator 90degrees to become a downflow? Just might solve an issue I'm having. I doubt there would be any difference, but just wandering if anybody has heard of any ill effects.
The way the cap will be positioned will be an issue. The cap needs to be at the highest point in the radiator so you can completely fill it to bleed air out of the system. You will never be able to top off the system because the fluid will run out before it can fill the airspace in the end tank above the cap. You may be able to have a radiator shop re-position the cap so you can bleed the system.

You can use a filler in the upper radiator hose to over come that issue,just not sure theres goin to be more issues?
92 grand am dosen't have a cap on the radiator it is located remotely with a hose.
had a rad built just like this with a cross flow core and upper tank on the bottom for fin space and had them use a upper tank with the filler moved to the middle. worked great and used a 4 core dimple tube core.
its not that big a rad and keeps my 500 caddy easily cool with a electic fan behind it.
for SBC and BBC's there are filler necks that have preassure caps on them, all other applications use the in hose cap adaptors,
