How do I find the vin number on a 31 Model A?

There should be a serial number imprinted into the top of the left frame rail at the engine compartment but it may be covered by the sheet metal where the hold-downs mount. If the frame is rusty, the numbers are deep enough that you should be able to run a body grinder lightly over the top of the frame and still see the numbers.
