no
ya you can use it, but it will not click until the gasket is smashed. you will either have to break down and buy a smaller version that goes down to a smaller torque value, or just chance it and go by feel with a 3/8 rachet.

thanks man i used a 1/4 inch drive ratchet and kinda crossed my fingers. it squeezes some of the permatex out but none of the gasket squeezed out so im hoping it was good enoughNever Criticise A Man Until You've Walked A Mile In His Shoes. sure sounds like what you did will be fine. that gasket will set in ther nice and should give you a nice seal. check it in a few days for any type of leak but it should be fine. this board is great for questions and no question is or sounds stupid. i have learned it is the ones that don't ask questions that are stupid. good luck to you and the new oil pan... i raise my glass of frosty barley pop to you my friend!I am the sun...Show me your moon!

I never use 3/8 if I can use 1/4. The main thing is too tighten the bolts in some kind of sequence to keep from warping the pan. After it's run for a while I'd crawl back under it and check to make sure everything is tight.
