wondering if anyone out there knows how i might get a 350 motor into a '51 chevy without messing with firewall.... the transmission will not fit.. there are supposedly special mounts you can use to put them in.. anybody have any ideas on this or help for me ????????:whacked: :whacked:
well, a 350/ TH350 will fit right in nice, and has been done many times by many people. www.chevsofthe40s.com sells a bolt in mount kit for SBC. you need to remove the E brake assembly and relocate it elsewhere, the linkage won't fit with the SBC.
yeah i thought it would fit in too... but looking at it the way it is setup, there is no way it will fit and the transmission is still not going to fit in. im looking for the kit on chevsofthe40s but cant find it.... got a closer link for me buddy?

what kind of trans are you using? I know TH350's are what are normally swapped in, but the parking brake has to be removed, it's right in the way. the steering box is normally close but they do clear the V8. what won't fit that you can see? or is in the way I should say.
3 speed automatic w/o overdrive.... from the way it looks it is just too close to the firewall.... i cant move the motor forward, because then the rad will not fit in. those brackets you found, say if i order one, will i get one, or is it one set....?
you will have to trim the two ribs on the fire wall that the carb linkage runs thru on the fire wall . the steering gets close
1 set. the motor will fit. as I said it's a common swap with little trouble, it may look like it's too close but with the e brake removed, it will fit. the 6 is longer than the V8 by 2 cyls so it will fit length ways with no problem. post some pics, I can only visualize in my head what you might be incountering. the only problem I forsee being a problem is the width, because sometimes the motor needs to be shifted 1" or so over to clear the steering box, but length is not a problem.
only problem is it was a V6 that was in the car before this swap is taking place so now i am going 1 cyl longer... i will take a few pics for you and post them later.
the original engine was ither a 216 or a 235 str8 6, 2 cyl's longer than an 8.Quote:
