C9X, you are one neat dude! I just got finished mounting stanchions on my '29 Bebops body and of course I had to get out my rat tail file but they line up pretty good and they are stainless so the slight filing of the mounting holes is within the countersunk holes. I like your idea of putting the mirrors into the upper hole but that is presently a 5/16-24 thread and at a slight upward angle due to the taper of the stanchions. The idea of using the upper hole for a mirror mount is appealing although I think the mirror arms will be slightly upward in a "V" due to having to tap the holes at an angle to match the angled surface of the stanchions. I am not sure there is room in the steel tab Bebops provides in the fiberglass to go to a larger 3/8" hole. Maybe one of the stock '29 mirrors could be rethreaded to 5/16-24 to put into the upper hole and that would be one less hole to drill in the stanchions since I already have to drill two for the windwings which appear to be essential. My question is whether the Harley mirrors are better because they are larger or because they are lower in the upper stanchion hole? Another question for this thread on mirrors is can anyone comment on the effectiveness of the clip-on mirrors attached to the wind wings? Maybe that is the best answer for me and I will only have to drill two holes in each stanchion for the wind wing mounts. I may not drill the holes for the finger pulls; for me the fewer holes means the few chances to mess up the stainless stanchions. Further how would I countersink the outside of the finger pull holes on a chrome plated frame? That looks like a chance to chip off the plating with my lack of skill. Comments on any of the above will be appreciated.
