Is there any reason not to use a 89 8 lug 3/4 ton ford rear end for a hotrod?Seems like it would be bullet proof or close to it in stock form?.500hp /500tq tops.

Yes. Unsprung weight and mass. Now, if you were building Big Foot........:D
Don
yup. Trying to get all that mass rotating will make you 500 horse feel like 300. Bullet proof maybe, but you can get that with a lot less weight.
I much prefer the dropout 9" Fords, easy to have another set of gears or two set up.... I suppose it would be strong, but all the extra weight and sheer mass would probably negate any gains... I built a car for a friend of mine in '95, close to 500 passes on it now and still the same pair of 40 spline Moser axles. The current engine is 500/500, it's had bigger engines. It has gone through a couple of pinions, however!!!
Thnx,Soo how much hp to turn this thing, do you guys think?20,40,60?Just a ballpark.I think it has a 10.5 ring in it?
All depends on what the basic unloaded drive pinion torque is. The HP will increase pretty linearly with speed.
