56 chevy TURN SIGNAL & RADIO PROBLEMS

:3dSMILE: On my 1956 belair when I wired my aftermarket horn I lost my turn signals and my radio quit working. My radio has an inline fuse/noise supressor on it- when i jump the 2 fuses inside the fuse/noise supressor it comes on, when i cut the whole thing out and wired the grounds 2gether and oranges(i belive dimmers) 2gether and an inline fuse on the red "hot" wire nothing happens. When i wired the reds 2gether it still doesnt work???? Why? The only way it works is if i jump from fuse 2 fuse inside the fuse block....Why? My turn signal flasher is not the problem I replaced it and still nothing.. ANy help would be AWESOME!

try putting a seperate hot wire and a seperate ground right from the batt and see if you get anything.if you do then it may be that the ground that goes through the sterring colum
(should be a strap) if you just put in a horn' that may be the problem. let us know if that works or not. might not be the awnser at all but it might not hurt to try. good luck

Sounds like your are trying to wire a few different systems. The radio should have a fused power lead to it from the fuse block. Power for the directionals comes in the wires that go up the colum as does the horn button but the directionals and horn should be on different circuits out of the fuse block. I wouldn't recomend running unfused wires from the battery to ANYTHING in the car, good way to get a short and burn everything up! Each circuit should also have a separate ground. Sometimes it's best to sit down and draw out your circuits for accesories in the electrical system instead of just trying to plug and play different things. Check each circuit for power, shorts, and a good ground....

You didn"t mention it but your horn should work through a relay so when the button is pushed the ground in the cloumn is applied to the relay and the horn works. Your horn is actualy two circuits one for the horn and one for the relay. They may both be on the same fuse. If you ran the horn directly off the column you'd need a #14 or #12 wire and the horn button switch wouldn't last long. Anyway there shouldn't be any + volts in the column for the horn.
