ammeter connection?
Original ammeter in dash,new higher rated alt under the hood,1 side of ammeter was connected to the hot lug B on the starter and 1 side was connected at hot horn relay ,main charge line from alt goes to horn relay.How would you guys hook it up now?Is it possible to just measure the batt only?Old alt was 55 or 60 amp ,new 1 is 100 amp alt.I think it would be just fine if I was only changing the alt,but I am also adding a electric fan and electric fuel pump on relays,any way to take this out of the ammeters path?Or using the old ammeter is just not going to happen?:confused:

Start with a Chrysler ballast resistor inline (wire from horn relay to ammeter). That should be plenty to act as a shunt. The ammeter gets it's reading from the horn relay (coils inside) so they already use the relay as a shunt. Just need to add a little extra.
If you have a way of reading the current on the wire from the relay to the ammeter the math is straughtforward from there. Problem is, you'll already have the 100 amp alternator on it. So, start with the ballast resistor (it can handle lots of amps), measure, and then we can do the math.
