Don't use sheet metal, use aluminum......find some good study aids for fabricating and study a lot before you even start building.....
why not sheetmetal?
too heavy, looks tacky. I like the polished or brushed aluminum better. JMO
of definitely but i know where i can get pieces of sheetmetal big enough and i have no idea where to get aluminum or how much it would cost
and i dont plan on using very thick sheetmetal
20 ga - 18 ga steel, paint it up nice.
Stay away from pop rivets, but if that's what you got to use, just use a bunch of them, and don't skimp on the reinforcement washers. Lots of little 1/4" zap screws would hold it nice, and give it an 'in your face' fabrication look. Spot welds would give it a clean look, just use a bunch of them. ( drill holes then weld them in, grind them smooth )
Use at least three inner ribs along with the two outer cap ribs. Hammer forming can give you exceptional quality on your pieces.
Use epoxy along with the fasteners.
If you bolt down to a trunk lid be sure to reinforce the attatchment points from the inside. If that thing comes off at speed, it could be tragic.
thanks man im going to go get some sheetmetal as soon as i get paid
