Another question on brakes

Ok I finally corrected the direction of the special square headed bolts and have the dust/grease shields oriented correctly, another question as a follow up to the Nylock question.
Originally it had nuts that looked kind of like a castle nut, but without complete slits. and also there are no holes for a cotter pin going through the special square headed bolts, so there's no provision for a cotter key anyway...yesterday I asked if I could replace these old nuts with Nylock nuts, but because of the length of the bolts, I'm not sure how well the bolt will engage the Nylon insert, so would I be able to use the same size jamnut (1/2 x 20)with red loc-tite and accomplish the same thing?
These are the 4 bolts that hold the backing plate onto the spindle.

Randy: You have made me rethink the cotter pin thing. Now I'm not so sure it had cotter pins. My car is at the shop, so it will be a day or so, but someone else will know the answer. It has been 15 years since I mounted mine.

It could be that those slotted nuts act as a locknut. I think the locktite would work fine, as you are only holding the backing plate to the spindle with these 4 bolts.

Let's see what others feel.

Red Loctite is a valid substitute. Make sure the threads are clean.

If you're real paranoid you can GACK the bolt thread. That's an engineering term for taking a punch and a small hammer and folding a portion of the first thread over on the bolt.

No I ain't kidding. We do it all the time on multi-million dollar rotating machinery balance weights to make sure they don't back out. You may need to use a die to restart the thread later depending on the bolt grade and GACK severity.
