heys guys im really confused on this one. i have a 69 el camino that im gonna start restoring. i wanted to get a posi axle for it, what is the best for the price? like i seen some adds for moser, like close to 2,000! thats crazy! anyway im not sure about 10 bolt or 12, whats the difference? are those just to match up with your wheels? i wanted to go 373 gears also. any body have any ideas? im really stuck on this one. also whats up with the 9'' axle? what are they all about? i dont really know much about suspension and axles and stuff , my car is gonna be street driven, it might see the track a couple of times but mostly a driver, like a weekend car. im planning on throwing a pumped up 396 in it , if that helps any on decideing on which axle. Please some one help.

The 10 or 12 bolt designation refers to the number of bolts on the differntial cover. Count yours, and you'll know what you have. The 12 bolt is generally stronger.

The 9" is a Ford designation that refers to the diameter of the ring gear. 9" Fords, properly set up, are probably the most popular axle in hotrodding.

You don't need a posi axle - you need a rear axle assembly with a posi differential.

You have a couple of choices. If your rear axle is a 12-bolt, and it's in good shape, you could have a shop install a posi unit. If it's not in good shape, you'd be better off replacing the whole rear end.

You can get a 9" Ford or a 12 bolt Chevy, or a Dana 60 from Currie Enterprises. They can set any of them up for your car so they're a bolt in. They're not cheap, but neither is the replacement of a couple of rear ends after your 396 eats them. Do it right, or do it two or three times. . . .

so you guys sugest going with a whole new axle like from currie or moser? i guess it would be the way to go , but damn soooo much money.

What rearend is in the car now?

The '69 Chevy PU's came with a 12 bolt rear & 373 gears, and they are coil spring ready....should be a bolt up. You can get them at the junk yards for about $125.00.
You might have to move the tabs for the trailing arms...I think the PU's have a longer set of arms.

yeah i dont know what in it righjt now, im in the process of buying the car, im going to see it on sunday so ill check. is there anything else you guys recomend?
