STARTER SOLVED! New Problem!

Thanks for all the help on the starter!! Now I was cranking, then all at once it stoped and now when you hit the key nothing at all happens. Everyhitng else works.

Have you checked your electrical?

Loose battery cable or starter wire on the starter?
Loose or corroded terminals on the battery?
Loose ground connection?

I think it may be the ignition switch because last week the starter would keep cranking after I turned the key back off. Sound right? Also the S on the starter is the peg closest to the block, right?

If, (God forbid) the starter drive gear hung up on the flywheel and didn't retract when the engine started, then the running engine will cause the starter armature to revolve so fast that the armature windings virtually "explode" inside the starter case, and your starter will be toast.
Fortunately, this will have been accompanied by a really horrible noise as soon as the engine started, and you would quickly shut the engine off before any harm was done.
It is more likely that you have starter alignment problems, where the drive gear has extended and the teeth instead of meshing with the flywheel ring gear teeth have jammed up tooth on tooth. This would give exactly the situation you have described, also. Loosen off the starter bolts, pull the starter off, bench test the starter. if it still works, do some reading up on how to shim starters correctly to cure alignment issues.

Check your wiring at the starter, mine had a fusible link which burnt out. Hank

what brian said was exactly right, I put 2 packs of shims not it starts but is noisy maybe take one out?
