THanks Eric
i have had this happen many times with big block over the years with very hi cr . check you timing and make sure you have a big battery . you need to turn it fast . some times the starter needs to go up not down you need to check the air gap on the the fly wheel and starter drive. on my car i ran a14.8 cr 548 big block with the stock gm starter .i had a switch to turn on the ignition when the engine was cranking i would turn the ignition on. the iron nose will fix this to i use this type of starter this was used on the big trucks and are hard to find.i have used this type on all my big blocks and make sure you have the start bolts that have knurling on them that runs up in the block and the front strap this helps the starter from waking around
