just a silly question here. does anyone here have any experance with switching a small window pickup to a big back window? i started this project with no real preferance but the further i get into it the more i think i want a big back window this far along i dont realy want to scrap the cab i have. any insight would be great

Never have done it, but it shouldn't be too bad of a project. I think if you were to cut the back of a big window cab apart at the seams, you should be able to do the same with the small window cab to put it in. When you cut the back out of the keeper cab, you should build some good supports to hold the roof and the side of the cab in place so aligning everything on the cab doesn't turn into a nightmare..... If taking it apart at the seams won't work, then cut about 3" outside of the big window, flange the cut line, and cut the small cab back window out and put the big back in. Use a hard paper or cardboard pattern to make your cuts and remember that the opening on the small cab will have to be 1/2" smaller all the way around to lay on the flange you made on the big back window cab section you cut out!!!!

seen it tried. it's the build from hell. it is much easier to fix the big window cab with parts from the small window. jmo
Yeah. I started this very same project myself. I found a complete cab that was in better condition than my original small window cab after I had cut out a big window cab section from another donor cab to do this project. I was going to use the drip rail seam and the factory seam at the back of the doors for the outer panel, and would have had to make a seam across the full width of the cab for the lower edge of the outer panel. I would have had to make a seam at the top for the inner panel. You are working with both an outer and inner panel here. The big window cab has extra braces welded in by the factory that reinforce the upper corner of the door opening. You will not be able to weld these in. As you can see, this is going to be very labor intensive. Hope this helps.
