Media or glass is the best way I've found to clean them, but it does leave a cheezy-looking finish, like you've sprayed it with aluminum paint.

After blasting, I've powder coated them with color and they turn out real pretty. You might try a clear powder coat after cleaning. I've never done that because of what I said about the manifold looking like it has been spray painted.
