'57 Chevy steering
Hi guys,
need some help. I'm completing a body-off on a '57 2dr hardtop. I can't seem to figure out how to disconnect the steering shaft/column from the steering box on the frame. It's manual steering and my manuals (factory assembly manual) are no help. I've removed everything from the shaft and diconnected the shifter linkage (auto on the column). Any help would be greatly appreciated. I need to figure this out so I can get the body off and sent to the blasters! Thanks!

the shaft is part of the box , you have to take the collum over the shaft .

So.....when I pull the body off...I need to pull it off over the steering shaft? Perhaps I'm missing something????

I was out looking at my 57 wagon and rather than pick the car 5 feet in the air why not take the steering gear box off the frame and slid it out the bottom.

Yes, that's what I figured out (took me a bit...:-) Yeah, just removed the steering wheel, column, etc. from the shaft, unbolted the steering box and pulled it out the bottom. Thanks again for the info.
