Just received a new bitchin firewall for my 40 ford....old one is out. Before I weld the firewall in, my mechanic is urging me to deal with the windshield wiper assembly now, so he can weld in the brackets etc. without crawling under the dash later. Seems like the right thing to do..
Can anyone suggest what brand works best . I plan to install a Ron Francis harness this summer. 40 ford is a 2-dr sedan..... Thanks
New Port Engineering makes a nice electrical unit. Bolts right on the old mount.

Newport is what I used on my 40 sedan, and my 40 coupe, and it is a nice set up because it allows you to use stock 40 towers and linkage. Of course I had stock firewalls with brackets in place. IMO if you plan to leave stock tower holes in the body this is the way to go. If you fill those holes then you can go to one of the cable driven aftermarket units. If you use stock bracket for Newport motor you can transfer from original firewall. Joe
I don't know if this is of any use to you, 'cos I don't know if these cars are extant in your country, but on our '47 we used a BMC Austin/Morris 1800 wiper motor assembly. It gave us the 90 degree of sweep/arc for the blades, and also the "hand clapping" action of the originals. It was also cheap, very easy to fit, and we could utilise the original towers, so it still looks stock.

I went ahead and ordered the motor you suggested...now I have it but realize that the mounting bracket was tossed with the old firewall....do I have to drill holes in my new bitchin smooth firewall?????.....or can I fabricate a bracket to hang from the cowl????...
.......not wanting to drill into new firewall if I don't have to ...
As far as I know, you will either need to mount Newport bracket to firewall with studs welded, or bolts thru. Unless you fill the stock tower holes and go to a cable driven unit other than Newport. You will be better off if you can find a stock firewall to measure for bracket placement. If it were me, I believe I would measure for placement and mark the holes, then get all the wiper stuff in place, mock up the Newport bracket, and see if the holes line up. Joe
