The starter in my 68 Camaro only engages half the flex plate ring gear. Have compared to other starters and the pinion moves out the same as on new ones and even on high torque starters. The flex plate is not bent or cracked or warped, have even disconnected it from the torque converter to see if that was pulling it away from the starter, but no such luck. Everything looks right except the starter pinion only engages half the flex plate tooth length. The engine is a 350 with a turbo 350 trans. Would appreciate any ideas on the possible problem.
