My 63 chev Belair used to have the same problem. The solution (for me) was to replace the headlight relay witha good quality bosch unit. Fixed it all up and made the lights a heap brighter as well. As a note I have seen some early chevs with no relay at all, if your is like that addiing one realy would be an awesome idea. This would then utilise the old headlight cct only for relay activation voltage.

sounds like the body is not grounded. if the ground is having to go through the motor mount to get to the head lights, while you are driving down the rd. the motor moves and breaks the ground and that's why your lights are flickering. ground to the motor, to the chassis, and to the body. the head light relay is in the head light sw., don't think you need 2 of them. its a lot of things it could be. but check the grounds first.Quote:

Hey guys I don't remember there being a relay inside the headlight switch. Perhaps I needed to look a bit harder...anyway wiring up a new relay didn't hurt as it provided new copper and a direct path from the battery. I guess a good check of your earthing situation is a great idea as well. It always seems to be the earth cct that gets neglected. Why can't it be something trickier?
Andy.

Nope, I'm sure it won't hurt a thing, and it might not be the ground, but I.ve fixed a lot of the older cars that way. If he will set still, put it in gear and load and unload the motor while holding the brakes he should see the light brighten and dim. the first one I had like this I think it took about 2 days to find it, because it wouldn't do it sitting still, that was about as (tricked?) as it gets.Quote:
