rusty flywheel
I never put a dust cover over the bottom opening in the bellhousing (my bell wraps all around the bottom), the part
that allows the engine side of the flywheel to be seen when looking toward the rear of the car.
It has been in my garage the whole time but of course now it
is coated in surface rust.
I realize that side of the flywheel serves no purpose, but is this
something I can ignore or will it turn into a bigger problem?

It's not something I'd worry about. I'm not sure if you're talking flywheel as in stick shift trans or flexplate as in auto trans. If auto , you can shoot a little WD40 on the flexplate if it will make you feel better. If manual flywheel, leave it alone and run it.

yeah, it's a stick.
that's why I was afraid to shoot oil even on the back for
fear it would screw the whole thing up.
I won't worry about it then.
thanks.
