Check out your frame real good. the frames from 48-52 Ford pick ups and delivery vans were flexible frames. My 52 frame had many hairline cracks from flexing. A good swap is the Chevy S-10 pick up frame. They come in 3 wheelbases...108, 117, 122. Yes, the Ranger is good also, but you'll have to get a newer one to get independent front suspension. The older ones have the old twin I-beam suspension like in the 70s Ford pick up. The Ranger or S-10 frame will cost about $300 from the junkyard, an IFS from a Mustang or Plymouth will cost about the same from a junkyard but you'll probably want to upgrade it. That means more money spent in aftermarket parts. You can get an IFS from Classic Performance Products, but they're pricey.
