Help on ashtray scoop 69 Camaro

Hello, Can anyone enlighten me about how these ashtray style scoop inserts were attached to the hood. I have a set that I am trying to put on a stock, flat El Camino hood. When they lay flat there is still about a 1/4" gap around the perimeter which lets you see under. I have been told that these inserts sat in an indentation in the Camaro hood. I have also been told that there is a gasket thet goes in this gap. I don't remember how it looked 34 years ago. If anyone can help me get the correct part to fill this gap, I would appreciate it, or anyother idea to make this work. Thanks

Thanks, Are these one piece gaskets? I'm thinking they look something like a valve cover gaskets? Another company told me the gasket was just a roll of foam tape? Does not sound right...

This is the '67-'69 Camaro SuperSport hood. It would appear that the dummy vents bolt down to the hood.

Bottom line, is there anyway to put these on a flat hood at all?

In the picture that Swifster posted it appears there are indentations where the scoops go. For a flat hood, you could cut holes for them to fit into, or you could take some pieces of flat stainless or aluminum stock and trim them to fit so they would take up the gap, you could then polish them so they match the chrome on the scoops. Once in place think they would look completely original. I think that would be better than gaskets or foam.
