Most sold as an OEM unit are the same. Each car company used to have their own name for a limited slip unit. Chrysler was Sure-Grip, I think Chevrolet used Posi-Traction, Studebaker used Twin-Traction, etc.Quote:

There are different types of rear differentials that do different things such as spools, lockers, etc.
Positraction / limited slip. Different name for the same thing.
If you've never had a vehicle with posi, be careful the 1st time you go out driving in the rain. When going around a corner, if you tromp on the gas, BOTH rear wheels will spin, and you'll slide sideways, or swap ends. In '69 I bought a '67 StingRay 427 with posi, and the 1st rain was a hair raising education. I didn't realize a car could swap ends so fast, and it's a miracle I didn't have an accident.
Been There Lar.
They can be wierd in the mud, all right. A buddy had a monster truck with Detroit lockers both ends. You could not keep it on the road. As soon as the tires moved, the whole works slipped sideways downhill, straight to the ditch. We had to put it in 2wd and rev the hell out of it to even move where we wanted to go!
Check out the ARB air lockers. They seem to be the best of both worlds... from open to spool with a flick of a button.
