Help needed with Air cleaner swap

I recently got a 91 305 camaro RS. The car came with a replacement chrome Edelbrok Signiture series air cleaner with filter.

The stock air cleaner....in the middle of the pipe (that leads from the inlet to the cleaner, there's a cap on top, and on the underside, there's a flexible pipe that runs straight down maybe 4 inches to the engine's header.

The new cleaner doesn't have any ducting....just relies on the air fliter getting the air directly. So if it were to put the new one on....I'd have a big hole on the engine's header. What exactly is it for? Should it be plugged up or re-routed?

If youve got a camera, take a picture of this tube so we can see what your talking about. Hard to give an answer w/o more info..

My junker '81 Impala had that, and it is connected to a heat shield on the manifold, draws hot air from the manifold temp. yes this is supposto help in cold conditions but you can remove it. you will have a hole in the heat shield but it will be ok.

All that hole is for is hot air. Winter startup conditions. So if you drive it in winter it might startup a bit rough.
