Thread: Which wheels for my van?

Here is a picture of my 1966 Ford Falcon Club Wagon. Which wheels would look better on this, between Cragar Keystone Klassics or Wheel Vintiques Magnum 500s. Would it be possible that American Racing Smoothies could look right on an extended van, like mine? Whenever I get around to taking care of the bits of "cancer" in the body, I'll either retain the current two-tone colors (as close as possible with real automotive paint, rather than house paint that the previous owner used), or I might go with one color, being Ice Blue Metallic (like my Squier Bullet Special guitar), which is only a few shades darker and with more blue than the current turquoise. The overall theme I've decided on, partly from the current two-tone colors, will be surfin'/tiki bar.

If the theme is a surf van, I'd go for the Cragars, which were more of a "street dress-up" wheel. I would highly advise 15 inch wheels, since the body is so large. The current wheels make it look like a refridgerator on a skateboard! :-) I hope you planned a surf board on top, and some surf graphics, to sell the image.

Here is the only thing I've worked on lately that was surf related. The "wood" trim helped to link it to the well-known surf woodies.

.....and this was the hood. As you can see, we also used aqua colors, which are suggestive of the ocean. (he also added a little dancing hula doll on top of the dash) :-)~

BTW, he permanently mounted the surf board on a roof rack, after we took the pictures. Fun stuff!

Personally I thought the "snowflake" wheels were a bad choice, but it wasn't my PT.

IMHO those are some damn fugly wheels

Matt, definately Cragers. I love it, refrigerator on a skateboard. I couldn't have thought that up, if I had to. I love it.
That van is going to make a great project vehicle.
If it were me, I would put down oak flooring. I have seen a chevy done that way, and it looked great! Made the vehicle ride really solid. I would beef up the suspension, front and rear. I would go with 255/70/15 radials front and rear.
A good fix up, good interior, good stereo, Floyd, darked out rear windows, Black/blue outside paint, some metalflake, lots of clearcoat, more metalflake, more clearcoat. Blacked out chrome.

Actually, I'm planning on an EFI 300-6 for it. Besides, depending how much freshening up a 300-6 would need before it goes into the van, it'd be close to if not 302 cu. in. when it goes in. The 300-6 will be a much easier swap, to replace the current 240-6, than a 302 V-8.

There will be a surfboard, and bambo panelling inside. As for graphics, perhaps a Rat Fink type figure on a surf board, a la "Surf Rat," somewhere on the body...like on one of the rear doors. I'll be going for subtleties, rather than over-the-top.
