starting problem help.....
just bought a 56 bel air motor is 265 bored out to a 283. some times car will start up right away but sometimes i have to spray into the carb for it to start.. some one said i may need a new or high performance fuelpump. is that ture also when i try to start it sometimes seems like has a hard time turning over . alternator is battery are brand new.. any advise glady taken..

if it runs ok after you get it running its probably not the fuel pump, but it could be leaking down after it sat over night, but normally the car will start and cut off if its the fuel pump leaking down.. . when it want start look over into the carb. and pump the accl. and see if fuel squrits into the intake , if it dont sounds like the carb is leaking down or the accl. pump is bad.. if you have a Q-JETS, they are bad about that.
sounds like the timing might be to hi on the hard starting.
