Lt/ls S10

Ok, i know there are people that have done this before and i need some advice...How hard is it actually to get an LS or LT engine into an s10? I'm very curious as to what it takes because I have always wanted a v8 s10 and one of the exotic v8's would be the way i'd want to go about it. There are, like i said, tons of opportunity on ebay to get the LS/LT engines and I can get ahold of an s10 rather easily...YES I KNOW IT WON'T BE CHEAP! I get that part :D But i think in the end it would be worth it. Anyone have a link to a "how to" on this subject, or maybe a book that shows you how to do it that i could buy?

An LT engine would be very easy as it's block is basically the same dimensions as the standard smallblock, and there are kits to install the smallblock, very straightfoward. Now on the LS engine, that one might take a little more ingituity as it's probably not been done very many times. There are some folks I know that have an LS motor installed in a 67 camaro and another who is going to intall an LS in a 73. There are some kits available for the Gen 1 Camaros but not sure about the Gen 2. I would bet you could get an LS in an S10 but would take a little more work.

check with these people Hopper111, its not to bad, but if you do it right its not quite as easy as 73rs says it is either. if you gonna use the computer, then it gets harder. some of the things you will deal with that you wouldn't normally would be the computer and wiring, radiator, hi pressure furl pump, fuel lines to the tank, ac is on the bottom of motor you have to deal with that, cant run a manual fan, motor mounts and drive shaft. JTR has a good book on it. do it right and its makes a nice ride. 1994 up takes less cutting than the older S10s

meh, i dont exactly want an lt/ls s10 anymore, i just wondered if it was hard to do or not, incase i decide that im interested in something like that a few years down the road. Im still working on making what i have run nice, then maybe ill sell it, buy an s10 and do a simple v8 s10...that wouldnt be bad, a full mechanical s10, carburated and what not. I dunno we'll see what the future brings! :D

the 350 with a carb. is no problem, the EFI and EI is where you get into the hard part.

ok thanks, im going to go ahead and rebuild the 305 and add a little umph to it in my big chevrolet, then ill tack a for sale sign in the window and advertise with new engine/transmission and see what i can get for it, then ill take that money + the money that i have saved up, and start construction on my very first hot rod/daily driver :D can you even compare those terms? hot rod and daily driver? haha!

i like to think my truck is a hot rod and i have to drive it every day if i want to go anywhere. its a 350 with over 300 hp, 4:10 gear, and get over 20 mpg of gas.

Well, but you have an lt1 s10 and i would go carburated so i wouldn't get as good of milage but i dunno! Im just absolutely happy right now, im not sure why but im in a great mood and life is good!

I kept mine pretty simple when I did my Isuzu. I had fun doing it. I am getting ready to pull the A/C stuff out since I have a C1500 w/ A/C, and the wife's car has A/C, so the "hot rod" doesn't need it.

Yeah, it is quite a conundrum - hot rod and daily driver in the same sentence. I built mine to be a daily driver, but I have since bought the full-size, and pulled the motor out of the Isuzu for a freshening.

lt1s10 what are the chances of an lt1 fitting under the stock hood and also being able to lay frame here is a link to my truck. clearance is my main concern not really wanting to cut hood or go with a cowl hood.

that looks good. you're doing it the way it should be done. all i did was lower the trick 3 ". my motor is as low and as far forward as you can get it without hitting the front crossmember. i could have cut the crossmember and dropped the motor down another inch or so but i didn't need to, to shut the hood. i could have used the stock hood, but i wanted the cowl hood. everything fits under the hood ok until you get to the breather, if you look at my pic. in the gallery the breather i used was as high as i could go. some people use breather duct to get the breather over to the side and that helps a little. if you're not gonna use your ac, you could work on the firewall and ac-heater box a little and move the motor back 2" and you could do most anything you wanted to. keep the pic coming.
